The Ark Encounter

After hearing of Ken Ham’s Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter in Kentucky several years ago, I wanted to visit and bring our grandson to experience the wonders there. So we finally planned our visit on June 18th 2020. We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn which is 30 minutes from the Ark and about 15 minutes to the Creation Museum. Both sites are about 45 minutes apart from each other in Northern Kentucky, not far from Cincinnati, OH, and North of Lexington, KY.

The Ark itself is life-size, designed as a ship and built in the dimensions written in Genesis of Noah’s ark in Genesis 6:14. The idea of the ark came to Ken Ham in 2004 and was completed on July 7, 2016.  When you visit the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum you will see the message of God’s word to the world on the authority of scripture and to declare the word of God is true and can be trusted.

“What would it have been like to watch Noah build the ark, see the animals arrive as guided by God’s divine command, or experience the first drops of water as the flood began? Well, you can travel through time and experience it for yourself with our virtual reality experience, Truth Traveler, coming to the Ark Encounter by mid-July”. (Ken Ham)

Answers in Genesis is an apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of Genesis, as it is the most-attacked book of the Bible. We also desire to train others to develop a biblical worldview, and seek to expose the bankruptcy of evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of years old” earth (and even older universe). www.answersingenesis.com

The trip was planned so that we would be able to see Ken Ham speak and so we got to see him speak on the biblical foundation of race = people groups. Our grandson really liked hearing him speak as well as Buddy Davis who sings and talks with Ken Ham about Dinosaurs and their existence on our world.

Day One

Arrived at Residence Inn Marriott Located in Erlanger, Kentucky, near the Cincinnati Airport, after a 10 hour drive from North Carolina. After unpacking we headed to the Chick-Fil-A for dinner. Due to COVID-19, they offered drive thru only so we picked up our food and brought it back to the hotel. All hotels abided by the requirements for COVID-19 by offering limited reservations with 2 days in between use to totally disinfect the rooms and letting them sit for one day before another guest accommodates the room. The Marriott offered grab & bag breakfast like most hotels at this time. Pool and gyms are closed at hotels as well.

In Kentucky there were several restaurants that offered sit down meals so we enjoyed stopping during our travels to have lunch at Chili’s and one time at the Outback. Overall, we felt very safe at the hotel and restaurants. Driving from Erlanger to Florence we all see a water tower that said, “Florence Y’All” and our grandson had fun telling us where we were by shouting “Florence Y’All”! There was also a baseball stadium for the local team, also called the “Florence Y’All’s”.

Day Two – The Ark Encounter – The highlight was seeing the Ark which stands so tall it is no wonder how a giraffe or elephant could board with no issues. Planned to arrive on this day since Ken Ham would be speaking today. He spoke on One Race One Blood. Our grandson was so impressed he ask to buy the children’s version. Later we saw Ken Ham speak with Buddy Davis who sang songs about the dinosaurs and of course he wanted Ken Ham’s book on Dinosaurs. There are many books and resources for families and teachers available in the gift shops at both locations. Of course, we bought several books along with other memorable items.

Day Three – The Creation Museum

Last November, the Stargazer Planetarium at the Creation Museum, had undergone a complete renovation. The Planetarium installed all-new, super-comfortable seats and replaced the original dome with a technologically advanced one that is even tilted to give a better and more relaxed view from every seat. We all so enjoyed the Created Cosmos show as we tilted our seats back to enjoy the show!

Starting later this summer, the Creation Museum will be offering a Pro-Life Ministry, Fearfully & Wonderfully Made. This stunning, high-tech display features striking 3D models to show the development of a child in the womb and presents the fascinating research from Answers in Genesis anatomist Dr. David Menton. As with all the museum’s exhibits, the pro—life message will be presented powerfully, beautifully, and with grace, concluding with the gospel message (Answers Insider). There are scientists such as Dr. Terry Mortenson that spoke on Noah’s Flood: Washing Away Millions of Years and showing there is no conflict with science and creation.

Day Four– The Ark Encounter – We returned to the Ark again to visit the zoo and have our grandson ride a camel. He also wanted to visit the wonderful playground with two different zip lines for children and other really nice playground equipment. There are nice picnic tables right near the ice cream store so of course we went visited the ice cream store again (and then again). We so liked the Restaurant Emzara’s we returned for dinner. Sitting outside viewing the ark was wonderful along with good food.

Both the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum offer zip line experiences for those over 8 years and 75 pounds and over (with a few other restrictions) booked through Screaming Eagle. Both over different levels and have awesome views as one zooms overhead.

Day Five – Back on the road again for our trip home. We stopped at lunch and took several breaks along the way. Totally worth the drive to see these two incredible parks and we will return again!
